One in three women and one in four men experience some form of domestic abuse in their lifetimes, but only 15% of domestic violence shelters accept pets. In addition, over 70% of women in domestic violence shelters report their abuser threatened, injured or killed a pet. As a result, nearly half of domestic abuse survivors delay leaving because they do not have a place that will accept both them and their pets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
